Relocating to Marysville/Columbus?

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin in urban meeting place | 1 Comment »

My husband is being relocated to Marysville, Ohio.

I’ve pretty much exhausted the search for places to rent in Marysville…there aren’t many options, especially with our two Saint Bernards. Also, we want a more urban and busier feel as we live in Indianapolis now, which seems a little small as we are originally from the Detroit Metro area.

We would appreciate any suggestions on areas that would fit our needs. Most important: we want an urban feel, a place that is really easy to meet other young 20-somethings, safe enough to walk the dogs at night (but it doesn’t have to be mayberry, we are from detroit lol), and within 40 minutes of marysville. We are willing to pay up to $1200/month.

Thanks so much!

I am from Marysville. There are a lot of really nice places here in town, not that they are urban though.
Things immediately around here are pretty small and definitely not urban.
There is a campus in Urbana, Ohio as well as Delaware, so there would most likely be plenty of places to rent, depending on how close you want to be to a campus.
Of course there is downtown, its pretty "urban" but rough in some spots, not really dog walking streets if you live on the wrong area
Dublin is always another good pick, but they are a little pricier. Hilliard is in the same boat as well as Worthington and Westerville.
As far as an Urban feel i would look at Dublin, Columbus and Westerville…those are the first ones that come to mind.
I hope everything works out for you.
It’s pretty small when you first get here…i know i was in for a shock, but it grows on you.

Is this scary?;;Urban legend:Smith Sisters.?

Good places to shop in new york for clothing? ?

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin in other urban places | 1 Comment »

I usually shop around broadway in the soho area in new york but i feel like im probably missing out on so much. I usually go to brooklyn a lot and stay around the LES. Where are other places for people in their 20s to shop? I like independent stores, and also places like Urban Outfitters.

5TH AVENUE!! LOLL yea there are a bunch of designer and unique stores in 5th avenue, as well as in 6th avenue(byrant park). i only shop around there when i go to manhattan! (=

Can anyone recommend good shops to go in New York?

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin in great urban places | 2 Comments »

Going to New York in November and I have been looking for the best shops to visit while I’m there but obviously it’s kinda limited searching via google! Really like the look of shops such as Urban Outfitters (which we have over here but the range isn’t as good!), Dave’s Quality Meat, Supreme etc. so if there are any similar to that or better that would be great.
Also any places where you can get nice clothers for good prices?
Thanks a lot.

H&M is great for clothes, and they’re very similar to Urban Outfitters. I strongly recommend going to the Urban Outfitters in Greenwich Village. United Colors of Bennington has some really good quality clothes for women. Some of the shopping on 5th and Madison is rather upscale, but it is possible to find good prices. Macy’s has a wide variety of items that are reasonably priced. American Apparel is a pretty good store. There is some good shopping in SoHo but some of it can be a bit pricey. Just about anywhere you go you can find good shopping, and just ask around. I hope I helped.

Where do you live? And what do you like about it? What do you dislike about it?

I live in Delaware, USA and I hate the pollution and the urban sprawl in the immediate area, however I love the LOCATION!!! We are within a few hours drive of 4 major metropolitan areas (New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C.) as well as the mountains and beaches. I love it. It’s the greatest place for day trips!

I live in Kansas City, Kansas!! I love the fact that Kansas is not a very popular vacation destination because it keeps our population under control and not very many people are as enticed to move here. I love having 4 distinct seasons to bring me different weather and The people are genuinely nice and laid back…. OH yeah and I can’t forget about our world famous BBQ…mmmmmm we have the best!!!! ♥
I don’t like the fact that we are next to Missouri… LOL!!! kidding, haha!!!! Really the things I don’t like about living here are that there isn’t a lot to do… that’s pretty much it, I love everything else about my city and state.

Is it an original idea…(nobody will answer this)?

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin in an urban place | 20 Comments »

Is it an original idea to make a traffic light as a fictional monster? I want to use traffic lights as flying sentry robots. Does it look like an original idea, or has another artist claimed that one?

Just imagine a ruined, urban place on a foggy morning. Ruined city buildings & lights in shambles. You approach a traffic light, and something moves. The red signal becomes an red eyeball! The traffic light rips free of its pole & starts shooting at you!

Well, how is this idea? Corny, too sci-fi, or weird?

quite original.

Can just see it now!
Kids all over town jamming into theatres to see this movie…

what’s it based on? what’s the plot, the start, the ending…

don’t make it a flop like "snakes on a plane"

What are some good entrepreneurship ideas for an urban area in the developing world?

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin in an urban place | 1 Comment »

If you have any experience running a business in a so-called poor country, care to share your inspiration, high and low points etc? What other ideas do you have for entrepreneurship in such a place? Thanks.

I may or may not have sold items in a poorer country. Items are cheaper in poorer countries. If you can reach the developing country customers by using the internet, while selling items from a poorer country, you have an advantage because #1, you read and type english so there is not much competition (for creating ads or website listings) if english is not the language of that country. #2 you are getting items at the cheapest possible price without having to export them all in bulk. You can export them as you sell each one.

Low Points: Culture Shock. Living in a developing country is a bit of a change if you are not used to it. I dont recommend someone try unless they have a genuine interest in that country, and are not going there just to make money.
Legalities. In most cases, countries will not allow you to make money there if you are not a citizen or do not have a business license. In most developing countries, it is very hard to get a business license and to be an "entrepreneur" or "self employed individual" is nearly impossible if you are to play by their rules. In order to get a business license, many of them require your present employer from your country to email a written letter to their immigration or visa office. This is impossible if you do not work for anybody who has interest in that country. In this case, you have to pay natives to do the work for you and instruct them on how to do everything. You can’t pick up one item or it will be illegal. This cuts into your profits a bit and may be borderline illegal in that country. But at the same time you are helping a person poorer than yourself so its a good deed no matter what.

Posted on October 25th, 2009 by admin in the urban place | 1 Comment »

Okay, so you can complete a pre-med at most schools, I know, but what are the top of the line schools that have the strongest programs for pre-med? Please list ANY school, because my application is extremely strong, and I will be applying to Ivies along with other schools.

Lesser known schools would be appreciated. Either in NYC, Chicago, or another ultra-urban place.

U. Chicago
Northwestern
Georgetown (Washington, D.C.)
Tufts (Boston)
Boston College
Case Western Reserve (Cleveland)
Washington U. (St. Louis)
Emory (Atlanta)
Johns Hopkins (Baltimore)
Swarthmore (Philadelphia)
