whats are the difference between rural and urban areas?
give me as many examples as you can….
for example, well something that i notice was that in rural places, time goes slow and in urban places time goes quick…..correct me if im wrong..
Rural is out in the country, more farm landish places. Rustic settings and the like. Urban is in a developed neighborhood. Not necessarily big city, but it can be. It’s more developed, with stores near by and the like.
How are my prospects looking (Princeton hopeful)?
So I am quite anxious yet excited about college applications in the coming years. I have become increasingly aware of college, and am almost always thinking about it
I don’t want to look boastful, but I just want to put this in a ‘resumé’ style format:
I go to Stuyvesant High School in New York City, a specialized high school into which only 3% of the applicants get accepted through a rigorous examination. It is ranked 13th nation-wide.
Cumulative GPA: 4.0 My school does not weight.
Class Rank: N/A, My school does not rank.
PSAT Score: 201, 96th percentile. I am really working hard on this and was disappointed by how a lot of silly mistakes accounted for it. I am hoping to get around a 2250 on the final SAT. Hopefully better.
AP Classes include: (No AP Exams, yet. Not until May)
AP Physics B (95)
AP Spanish Conversational (95)
AP European History (94).
Honors classes include:
Honors Chemistry (100)
Math: Honors Geometry (95), Honors Trigonometry (98), Honors Algebra B (94).
I am on my school’s Junior-Level math team, consisting of 40 students, which is ranked number 4 in the nation.
Extracurriculars:
The Stuyvesant Spectator Op-Ed section Editor and Writer
Stuyvesant Policy Debate Team:
……..24th place out of 200 in 2007 Monticello Novice Division tournament
……..New York State tournament qualifier and octofinalist
……..2nd place in New York City Urban Debate League Novice Division 2008
……..4th place speaker in New York City Urban Debate League Novice Division 2008
……..2nd place in Monticello Debate League Junior Varsity Division 2008
Submitted a New York Regional math paper on hexaflexagons and associated combinatorics theory. Awaiting results and placing.
Worked in a group of three on Toshiba’s ExploraVision project on the Argus II, a retinal implant that is speculated to be the next greatest technology in eye care and vision impediment cure. Awaiting results and placings.
Worked with a group of three on a National History Day project-competition and we focused on how the wives of King Henry VIII impacted his political work and, in effect, the rest of England and Europe at the time. Once again, awaiting results and placement.
I’m hopeful of becoming the team captain in the 2010 school year, though I do have some competition.
Summer Activities:
Summer, 2008: Volunteered for 107 hours in Liberty Science Center, headed a project on examining and studying effectiveness of exhibits and wrote a project proposal on adjustments and refinements that could be made on the museum from a visitor’s point of view.
Became floor project manager of a week-long museum-wide survey of appeal of exhibits. I am asking the head of the volunteer department for a reference letter, and am also going to work at least 50 hours more next summer.
Summer, 2009: I am applying for Merrill Lynch’s entrepreneur internship program, Columbia University’s Design and Engineering through Community Service, and University of Texas Debate Research program. I am confident I will get into at least the Columbia University Program…Again, those are not yet done.
I am sorry to say that I haven’t taken any AP Exams since they are administered in May, but I have very high expectations for myself and will make sure I meet them. Also, my applications for summer programs have just been made out, and so I will update this if anything happens.
I am planning to apply to Princeton University, Yale, and Cornell as reaches, and Carnegie Mallon as a target. Could I get some feedback as to how I am doing with this? Unfortunately, my guidance counselor is pretty new and she is still getting adjusted. I am helping her out with a lot of work, speaking with her regularly, and to some extent, we are both learning and progressing together which is a good thing, I guess.
Anyways, if anyone wants more information, please ask and I’ll provide it. Thanks a lot for your help, guys, and I hope I didn’t come across as boastful as I saw many others who did…
Oh, I forgot about NYS Regents grades:
8th Grade:
Math A: 98
Earth Science, the Physical Setting: 97
Spanish: 90
Spanish Proficiency: 96
9th Grade:
Physics, the Physical Setting: 97
And my cumulative school average is a 94.6.
Thanks, again.

How we can find the donators to help the victims of Gender Based Violence and Domestic Violence?
I am Director of the Women’s Wellness Center that has become one of the leading local institutions in Kosovo whose main focus is gender-based violence. The WWC is a multi-service women’s center that offers direct counseling, support and referral to survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. It offers extensive rural outreach of counseling and education organizes a wide range of activities and courses for women as well as trains professionals (healthcare providers, social workers, police, judges, and lowers, public prosecutor) to recognize and respond to domestic violence and sexual assault. The Women’s Wellness Center is covering four municipalities of the Pejë region (Pejë, Deçan, Istog and Kline) consisting of urban areas and rural zones with a total number of 300.000 inhabitants.
The Women’s Wellness Centre is seeking support for to realize building a safe house for victims of violence
This donation will contribute:
–To profit kosovar community especially the target population – the women and children victim of domestic violence.
-from the experience the WWC staff created a data base for all the sheltered clients. From those statistics is information that in our shelter have been sheltered clients from all Kosovo and every day the number of clients that are seeking the safe place is increasing.
- To offer more adequate accommodation for the domestic violence victims.
The house that we use for the shelter is a private house and unable us to offer adequate accommodation for the sheltered clients. According to our regulation we don’t accept clients that have sons older than 9 year old. We had cases when the mother with some female children was sheltered at the safe house and the male children were sheltered to her mother family. This is not a solution because first it’s not a safe one and the mother doesn’t feel calm at the shelter.
If you’ll support us with building the shelter, we prearrange to have a special place in the building with an entrance for an apartment for the specific cases.
-To develop sustainability for the project
In this building was foreseen to be one part that in the future will be used for any kind of manufacture and from which we and the clients will profit. In this way we could secure income for the elementary need of clients that right now we have the donations but not now till when will have the support? This should create more sustainability for the project itself.
-To achieve economical independence and physical and emotional safety for WWC/S.H. staff.
The most difficult part of donation is to find the money for shelter rent .If we calculate the rent for the next 5 years would be more expensive than to build a safe house.
I’m pretty sure that solicitation of this type is probably against the rules here. That being said …. try contacting Amnesty International and getting assistance from them to locate proper sources of funding for your well purposed goals.
What is the best place to live for a psychology career (for a project, not for me)
What is the best place that has a better chance at getting a job, whether private or group. RURAL, URBAN, or METROPOLITAN areas?
Rural, areas of maximum isolation (atleast out of the three) creates great psychological analytical projects. The mind will create its own escapism when left on its own.
Just to add as are you asking about getting a job or just a project you want to carry out? I thought on first read it was to do a project on psychological studies, in that case rural areas as I said people who are somewhat isolated make great case studies. However if you are looking for work, then In the UK we refer to areas as suburbs, this are areas just outside the cities. These are the best places to find work as most people who live in these areas work in the city. With the stress of city and daily life on the increase these people need someone to turn to so I imagine demand in such areas for psychologists is quite high.
Hay. Where can you meet and develop friends in the east bay? Ages: 18-21. Name all good places and settings?
Background: A cool nerd who didnt get real social in high school. In college now and want to meet people and get out the house. I am 19 now. Keep in mind im black which gives certain areas more cool urban settings.
Name all places and settings which are conductive for socializing.
Maybe join some on campus clubs or attend events on campus. That’s always a sure way to get to meet people in college.
