Where are some good places to settle down in?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin in rural and urban places | 1 Comment »

I’m dreaming of what my life will be like one day. I want to go to New York and work as a photographer, maybe audition for Broadway. When I’m done, I want to settle down and be a teacher or a youth pastor. Where are some good places to settle down with kids. The place can’t be out in the middle of no where, but still safe. Not to rural or to urban. It has to have all four seasons, fall, winter, spring, and summer, and also it can’t break my bank to live there. Any suggestions?

P.S.:
It has to be in America. And NOT West Virginia!! I already live there and hate it!!!!!

Suburb of Chicago or Atlanta

or somewhere North Carolina

best answer to whoever can answer thease thanks?

Controlling Girlfriend or Independence?

Posted on December 28th, 2009 by admin in urban place apartments | 10 Comments »

I found a place in Newark near the business district. Nice apartment, spacious, with attic etc. My girlfriend of a couple of months is upset that I picked that place. Mind you she is not moving in with me, nor is she living with me at present. However, she feels that since I picked that place after she shared with me that fact that Newark has a reputation of being high crime…after all, urban communities have crime period…that we should break up if i move over there. She already said she refuses to visit me if I go there, and that I would be putting her safety at risk.

Should I just move on the deal? Or should I listen to her and look for somewhere else in the city?

Personally I would go for the apartment. It seems to me that your girlfriend is being pretty melodramatic and besides breaking up with someone over where they live is a pathetic reason; sounds like you’d be better being well shot of her.

Do you feel confident in your 911 system?

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 by admin in rural and urban places | 2 Comments »

What type of environment (rural, suburban, urban, etc.) do you live in? Why have you had to call 911 in the first place?

Three years ago, My best friend was murdered by her husband. He was in the Guard and got away with it. She called 911 and it was never reporter to the police. She was unable to speak due to the shot she took to her head. They were in the middle of a divorce and was pregnant. She left 2 other children and a loving family but I think she was let down when she managed to call for help in a state that did not allow her to speak. She never met my 18 month old daughter who accidentally called 911 when playing with my house phone. I had two officers respond to that nonverbal call. Kerry Repp. She loved Elvis. Dr. Pepper lip balm. Doc Marten shoes. She had this way of dancing in place when talking to you, like she didn’t even know she was doing it. I miss you, Kerry!

Is This Freaky Or What???
It was a nice house. The house which would come to be the key which would lock me in a permanent dungeon of horror forever. In 1997 I came to Willington,Iowa. A small town into which little big buisiness or large shopping centers had come. I had moved here because of the quiet and calm of a small town.
The house was an old Colonial era house of modest but large size. It was on a sprawling piece of land with many caves, creeks, cliffs, pools, and other geological oddities I felt would be quite enjoyed by my daughter and son. The locals were never incredibly friendly to us urban folks. But that was not a big problem because we would only come to town for groceries and other things of the sort. We had 250 acres to explore. Quite enough to occupy our free time. I was an author. I had gained custody of the children from Martha and was very happy to have my children back with me.
In the first few months we had grown to love the place and we all felt a certain emotional bond with its

charm. We all slept well in our beds confident of a new start in Willington.
It started in 1998 two and a half months after our settlement there. My 10 year old daughter complained of pains in the
chest. I took her to the doctor and he saw nothing physically wrong. She took some aspirin and that was all. The next day both my children were complaining of the same pains. My son being one year older than her. Could maybe the doctor said be a growth spert. But after about a week the pains had stopped in both of them.
The next few weeks were normal except for my son was not going out to explore in the woods anymore. I asked if he would go with me but he simply said "But you cant fight it." In a childish way. Never again would my boy or girl go into the woods.
A month or so after these incidents. I was typing at my typewriter and as normal fell asleep. I remember distinctly horrible dreams of doom and twisted inner torture which numbed feeling. i also had dreams of great outer

spherical battles between great forces of godly power. White great mounds of force lunging down upon dark forboding rocky fluids twisting around the light figures of…good I gathered. I felt confident at first behind the great white beings but soon my confidence turned into uncertainy which became terror at the sight of constant battle between these forces. I woke up with straining on my chest as my children descibed.
Leaning back on my chair I fell forward as my eyes met the paper which had been typed in front of me. I looked over it seeing that it was complete gibberish. Letters put together so that when you pronounced them a horrible feeling in the throat came over you. The words and sounds when read came out as gutteral ugly sounds which seemed to be words. I felt incredibly strange reading it. I felt as though I could almost read them. Like almost being able to read latin from derivatives. But I came to terms with the fact I couldnt read them. I came back to myself after

wondering over the paper. I began alarmingly worried about what had typed it and why it was gibberish. I felt a great stress and instincively ran to check on my kids. They were both downstairs doing the work I had assigned to them on the floor in front of the television. They were working and watching T.V. at the same time. I immediatly asked if they were messing with my typewriter. They both said no reminding me they wrent allowed in my study. I immediately went throught the possibilities of how this strange yet forbodingly intriguing piece of writing had been typed. In my sleep I might have run my arm over the keyboard, but how would that explain the spacing between words? I became very alarmed and my children asked what I had. I showed them the paper and they knew nothing about it. I had forgotten about the great pain in my chest with all the wondering. I had no idea what to do. I seemed to subconciously make the connection between my dreams and what had been on this paper.
Im not incrdibly sure what to wrie next. I dont know where to go with the story.
Pretty fuckin scary huh?

Well the plot is good but i have not seen enough detail to really get my imagination going. perhaps when speaking of the paper with the type on it make up a language that looks like gibberish and let us break the code or something. not anything too hard but just enough to get our minds working. the story was forced too quickly.
if i cant imagine the scene than it wont get the hairs on my neck standing.

so recap
1. good plot has many places that it could go.
2. not enough detail.
3. relate to your readers and challenge them.

thanks

Looking for suggestions on great liberal US cities/ towns to live?

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 by admin in great urban places | 2 Comments »

My husband and I are looking for a really great liberal city or town in which to live and raise our family. A place with a thriving art and cultural community, great public schools, higher education opportunities, and sense of community. We would prefer to go smaller town but are not opposed to larger cities if we can find the right niches in which to live. We would like a place where we can ‘live locally’ (i.e. farmers markets, food co-ops, small local businesses, short commutes, etc) We have pin pointed a few places but would love to hear other people’s suggestions. We are not really tied to a particular area or climate. We just really want to be around people like ourselves with similar interests and values. Right now we live in a mostly conservative area where urban sprawl is never ending. We do our best with it but don’t find many people that we connect with. Thanks for suggestions!!!

I am in love with the Northeast region and particularly enjoy Boston. However, I understand your aversion to a metropolitan area. One of my favorite area in the world is a city called Portsmouth, NH. Also, check out medium-sized town in Connecticut like Waterbury or Danbury. There certainly is a live and let live sort of atmosphere, a great emphasis placed on education, and and untouchable historical value.

Good luck in your search!

how can human activity affect a creek ecosystem?

Posted on December 20th, 2009 by admin in rural and urban places | 1 Comment »

the creek is located within a rural-urban catchment where rapid development has taken place. The creek itself, has experienced years of deterioration due to industrial pollution and urban run-off. It has been heavily modified in its middle sections to provide flood protection once extensive wetland areas and also in upstream tributaries.
with measurements made, there was no phosphorus or nitrate found.. in fact the water was clear, and seems "healthy".. the only human activity found were mats and garbage..

toxins/rubbish washed from stormwater into the creek, some chemicals such as phospherous breed algae which is pretty bad in excessive amounts
