Where is a good place to move to in New Jersey?
Ok well were moving in August to NJ rite? but we just don’t know where yet. We as in me my mom and my sister want to move somewhere where urban like. See like if we wanna go to the mall, movies, restaurants, fast foods places, bowling etc. It wont take us but like 15, 20 minutes at the most to get there. The part of NJ also has to be 30 to 45 min away from NY by car at the most. Odds are we are moving to an townhouse or 3 bedroom apartment so we are not to worried about the cost of living. But anything will help please give me as much information as you can thanks!!! P.S also good elementary schools & high schools. Since im from NC and have no idea what the school systems are like up there.
The airport so you can get out of there as quickly as possible.
Are there any dense walkable neighborhoods in Houston?
I’m looking for a dense, vibrant, urban, progressive, walkable neighborhood in Houston. A place that is full of shops, restaurants, bars/clubs, businesses and residential walk-up apartments all closely knit together… closely enough to where someone could walk between all of these places and could spend the day/evening out in that neighborhood ***without a car***. What is the best neighborhood for this in Houston???
Montrose, Midtown, Downtown, Houston Heights, and the Museum District are all good, safe walkable neighbourhoods in Houston. Downtown and the Museum District are well-connected with light rail, and all of the neighbourhoods I listed have good bus service if you get sick of walking.
Do ALL cities and towns eventually become like downtown LA or the rough part of New York and Jersey?
An aweful lot of towns in the United States are building more and more apartments and other things, and becoming more Urban, is this bound to happen everywhere, has anyone seen how rough down town Los Angeles is for example, it’s like there is nothing natural about it, people are feelingless, no one trusts anyone else, people only care about making money, selling drugs, etc….there are tons of frightening sad looking apartments, there is nothing wholeistic or truly happy in places like this, is this how all cities do turn out, do some small towns not follow this trend ? I have no basis to compare never really having traveled to very many places besides, LA, Solvang, California, Burbank, Pasadena, Lancaster, Ca etc……
You don’t think that Burbank, Pasadena and Solvang are like downtown LA, do you? There are small sketchy areas in Burbank and Pasadena, but most areas are very nice and safe, with very nice people. While downtown LA is rather seedy, parts of it are nice, and the city is working to turn it nicer, with the new Nokia and restaurants, etc. While I’m sure many people living in bad situations may be despondent, are you sure there are no happy people? Have you worked in the community to help? Take a closer look for yourself, you can always volunteer, there are plenty of opportunities.
Does this start to a book have potential? ( A little lengthy)?
I had a dream last night that prompted me to write. The genre would be a darker kind of romance between two people who really shouldn’t be together. Basically, good average girl falls for bad boy. What are your opinions guys? Does it capture your attention at all and make you want to know more? I’ve thought of writing for awhile and recently began recording my dreams in a journal to see if anything could come from them. What do you think?
I don’t know why I chose to go down that road that day, but I did, and that choice will linger in my mind forever.
Most of the time I always took the same route. You’ve read the papers and the watched the news. There are some pretty dangerous people out there these days, I’d think to myself. It was never worth the risk going into uncharted territory. But, for some reason, today it was. “Oh what the hell,” I spoke out loud. It was a new subdivision. The tall, high rise apartments lingered in the sun-soaked valley commanding the sky. They were high, about forty stories high. The exterior was covered more so in glass then frame and they were shiny reflecting off the sun. This street was all new. The city’s way of trying to adapt to the modern times. On it’s own, Everglenn was a decent sized town, about one hundred thousand people. Today, it was about sixteen degrees outside. A warm, spring day. The wind blew through my long, dark hair cascading shivers that rippled down my spine. I pulled by bret out from the side of my bag, gathered half of my hair and clipped it. This way, the wind wouldn’t blow all the tendrils on my face. I kept walking, slowly, admiring the views of all the modern architecture. It was all very urban, but still the city managed to keep some aspects of nature. There were many trees and a lot of greenery. For a newer neighbourhood, it was dead. I guess a lot of people were at work. I mean, it was one-thirty in the afternoon. I worked, but only part-time in the evenings three nights a week and occassional weekends at the Starbucks a few blocks away. I’m currently enrolled at Everglenn University, hoping to come out with a degree in law. Right now, classes were finished for the day and I was heading home for some much needed study time. Exams were in two weeks and I already put off studying for a while. My building, was past all these newer, nicer ones in an older subdivision just a few blocks away. Again, it was an older building, but modest for a student to be able to afford. Mom and Dad helped me a lot with that one, insisting to pay for my residency including utilities. I told them I could share a dorm close to school with everyone else, that I didn’t mind but they insisted I have my own place so that I could have privacy. I was a pretty private person. I had one best friend–Jillian and many aquaintances. I was nearing the end of the street where I’d turn left down Fernbrook to get to my complex, when I heard the footsteps of someone behind me. I looked back and sure enough someone was there. It was a guy, definately older then me. Me being in my early twenties, twenty-three to be exact and this guy had to be in his early thirties. He had medium-length brown hair the was cut just above his shoulders with a tinge of blond to it. It too glistened in the sunlight like everything else around me. He wore a dark purple shirt underneath a black vest with matching black chinos and black boots. I turned again, this time I looked at his face. Oh my God, I thought to myself. He had two scars coming up from each end of his lips into his cheeks, very noticeable. I tried not to make a face. Something bad had happened to him at some point. His eyes met mine. It was as if he was smiling, the way his scars were portruding his face. I looked forward again, not wanting to admit to myself how uncomfortable I was feeling. For some reason, I don’t know what it was, I turned all the way to face him this time. He met my eyes again and moved closer to me, step by step, until his face and those scars were inches away from my face. I was frozen. I couldn’t move. I could feel the spring breeze mixed with his warm breath running down my neck. My whole body tingled. I didn’t know this man, but for whatever god foresaken reason, I wanted him to touch me. That’s when he did. He cupped my face in his muscular hands and searched it as if he were looking for something. Then, he let go. I just stood there, staring at him in awe. I couldn’t speak, nothing. What was happening to me? What was I doing with this person I didn’t even know?
Once he let go, he turned and looked as if he were about to walk away. I stood in silence, still frozen, just staring at this wondrous person. He turned again and looked at me. “Do you wanna come up?” He pointed to the building to the left of him. It was one of the buildings I had been admiring before all of this happened. “Sure,” I said simply. I didn’t even know this p
I’m of two minds about this. Your plot is a little cliched and over done, but I don’t think that’s anything you really need to worry about. After all, every story ever written is generally based on a few broad concepts (good vs. evil, impossible love, etc.).
You didn’t say where you intended to go with this story, nor how long it will be. Is it going to be book length? A short story? If it’s a short story, you’re on the right track, having jumped right into the thick of the plot. If it’s book length (and without knowing your plot intentions), I’d venture to say that you’ve gone too far, too fast. I know very little about your protagonist and that makes it really hard for a reader to get into the story and relate to the character.
Lastly, you need to format your story properly. What you’ve got here is one long, HUGE paragraph, and it’s really hard to read. I’m going to assume that you were forced by Y!A to do that so you could fit more in, but if not, you’re going to have to revamp.
All in all, it’s got some potential, but it needs work. I like how you write – descriptive, clear, interesting – and you could probably create a great story with your beginning. Have people you trust read your work and critique and edit it. Good luck!
Would you live on a residential pier?
I don’t know if these are already being made, so I’ll ask anyway. If you were a resident of a coastal city, what would think about a pier that had several houses and what have you? Would you want to live in a place like that? Say if you live in Los Angeles, for example. Would you support a local city plan to construct several piers that have apartments, condominiums, or rowhouses on them? Do you agree they might help mitigate urban sprawl? Why or why not?

I wouldn’t because I’ll be too busy working on getting out of such an urban, densely populated area, like Los Angels, which I live 28 miles south of.
If I can’t shoot on my own property then the area is not for me.
But more related to the question, pier homes will be cramped, expensive, and may have the most restrictive housing regulations because it’s out over the water and pollution is a major issue. I would not support such a plan because of the cost of construction, environmental impact, and high chance no one can afford to live there or want to live there. I certainly will not want to live there unless I have a 1 acre lot and a tradition front and back yard, something that’s like $2 million to build. On a pier residence, space is at an extreme premium and people will be living in homes with a tiny footprint and with extremely high population density. They will not be allowed to have cars because cars weighs a lot and that will be asking too much out of the engineers who building the structure over water. They will not have a front or backyard, maybe a small porch at best. To preserve the environment, there will be likely extremely strict rules on what is allowed in people’s homes, say during a natural disaster the whole thing fell into the sea people’s possessions will not pollute or damage the local ecosystem. These oppressive rules and regulations would seem tome like an extremely expensive and totally voluntary residential prison. And for what? a pretty view of the ocean or city? its not worth it.
What was Barcelona like, pre-1992 Olympics?
I’m working on a book, and I’d like to place one of my flashback scenes in Barcelona, somewhere around 1985-1990. This would have been pre-1992 Olympics and all the urban beautification that must have followed.
Anyone who lived in / traveled to Barcelona during this period: What was it like? Where did you hang out? Are there street-side cafe’s where a couple could sit and have an intimate conversation, or is it more urban and loud, like New York City?
Also, are / were there apartments and family dwellings downtown, or would it be more likely that someone would have a house / ranch outside of the city limits?
I’ve always wanted to go to Spain, but have not yet had the opportunity. Anything you can offer to make the setting more authentic would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
I want to recommend that if you are writing a book, your setting ought to be some place where you actually have BEEN. It lends a more authentic air.
To be honest…I was there in 1981. I don’t really remember that much…I don’t think the Ramblas was quite as pretty as it is now. i think they have repaved the whole thing.
Outdoor cafés have also been the norm, and, yes, a couple might have spent a quiet tête a tête at the cafés along the Ramblas, then, as well.
The Templo de la Sagrada Familia was a bit smaller…or at least had fewer towers/spires. I’m pretty sure there were only four at the time.
Yes. People lived and still live in the city. The old cities in Spain are generally the more expensive/more desirable places to live. The whole concept of "house" is so different there. For the most part, the big house with a nice, green lawn, as you see in suburban USA really doesn´t exist. Houses in the outskirts of cities are much smaller, with little land. Ranches outside the cities are either for weekends or the very wealthy (or both). Most people live in small homes in small towns, smallish houses in the outskirts, or apartments in cities. Sometimes something akin to a townhome, adjacent to the whole street, but one owner has the entire, three or four floors.
You should go…spend a couple of months, doing research, so you can make it more authentic. Write it off of your taxes….:)
You might want, if your characters are pretty well off, to think of putting them in one of the very fashionable "Moderniste" apartment buildings in Eixample district.

Decorating my apartment room! need help!?
Hey yall I need help finding bedding for my new apartment bedroom. I am very girly. I like anything. Especially bright colors. Hearts, hello kitty, you name it. Anyone know of any good places to find bedding? Besides anthropologie and Urban outfitters. Thank you for your time! 10 pts!
I’m not sure how old you are but if you’re older than 13, I’d skip the hello kitty or anything really little kiddish. Keep that stuff to accessories (there are some really cute hello kitty alarm clocks out there).

Only when they become so huge that individuals get "lost" in the system and no longer see any other alternatives. Also, one of the biggest influences in a child’s life is the presence of a strong parent who values education and hard work over easy money from drug sales, etc.
Everything starts at home. If parents scream, holler, and abuse each other, that is what the child will view as "normal." Once those kids are old enough to make their way into society but choose gang warfare, the society will continue to decline. The big cities then follow suit.
is it true that the goverment is going to far?
i dont know how many ppl got this email and i dont know if its true here i copyed and pasted
The Plant City Living Center has told Mrs. Arnold, an 85-year-old grandmother in Florida, that federal law prohibits her from displaying any religious words or items associated with Christmas in the common area of her apartment building.
According to the Center, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a directive banning "any religious symbols or religious words associated with Christmas." Under the guidelines issued by HUD, the elderly grandmother cannot place a small Christmas tree outside her door (because that area is a "commons area") if it contains any religious symbols or religious words, even an angel!
If the residents want to have a Christmas party in their Community room, they cannot call it a Christmas party. The Center says HUD directs residents not to use the word "Christmas" but to use the word "Holiday."
frankly this is to much. i took a class that was all about american history and the constatution and the bill of rights and the decleration of indapendence. it taught us all about that stuff im 13 but im very aware of things. plus the part of the outside of her door being called a commons area is absalutly disturbing. she is paing for the apartment and somone can not just come and sit on her porch for no reason. even if its not true. i still dont like it.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Federal money should not be used to fund religious displays. However apparently religious fanatics caused HUD to give in and allowed the display: http://slantedright.blogspot.com/2007/11/leftist-war-on-christianity-heats-up.html
The area outside her door is a common area for the other residents.
The community room is paid for by government money. As such, if a Christmas party was held by residents in that room the government would be paying a part of the cost of a Christmas party. Unless they are planning a winter solstice party as well they are establishing Christianity over other religions. The Plant City Living Center is a HUD assisted living facility, not a full price apartment complex.
You can not operate a church in the rotunda of the US capital building either.
