I went into the dressing room with a total of 8 items. The guy double counted and I should have took notice to that because they usually never do that. I brought extra items in because I wanted to walk out looking like I didn’t take anything. I was going to take a dress, a tank top, and two shirts. I ripped the magnetic sensors off and took off the tags. I put the tank top ($58) and one of the shirts ($16) into the inner lining that had previously ripped due to a zipper malfunction and hid it there. I placed the tag into the clothing I was not going to take and wrapped the magnetic sensors into tissue paper I had in my bag to dispose once I got out of the fitting room. As I walked out, SURPRISNGLY the guy counted my items and as he took them from my hands, the tags fell off. The manager was right next to him so she took the items and asked me how did they appear there? I told her that I had no clue and I didn’t even try on the skirt with the tags that fell off from. She left and after that as I left the store the ringer rang which I thought was IMPOSSIBLE because I had no magnetic sensors or tags on me. They took me to the back room and searched my bag and found the shirt and the tank top. I confessed and they took all my information down excluding my social security number. I am sixteen years old by the way and they were going to release me to my parents, but my parents were unreachable. They told me they were going to fine me and send it to my address. They called security, but security didn’t do anything, but stand there. The manager gave me a number to call if I have any questions. I did not sign any papers. As security escorted me out of the mall, I asked him, on average how much would the fine be. He told me that chances are I would not get fine because in order to get fine, security would have to write a report and they didn’t do anything, but stand there. Is this true? and on average, how much would my fine be, if I am to get fined? Will I have to go to court?

I would like answers from people familiar with Loss Prevention or Law Enforcement, or previous shoplifters. Thanks.
Oh and the magnetic sensors that I took off and placed in tissue paper. I took that out and gave it to my friend to dispose of, so as I walked out of the store, they were not present in my bag, but somehow the door still rang? I don’t get it? and when they searched me, all they took was the shirts. Do they have an manual ringer to the door to catch me? and as I was walking in and out of the door, so was the worker. I heard that when workers leave the store, it also rings?!
I live in California by the way.

If what you say is true, then you are very lucky. If we stop a minor (under 18) and the parents are unreachable, or they won’t give their parents info, we refer them to the police department automatically, and they go to jail, where the cops will ultimately reach their parents anyway.

I’m not sure why security didn’t do anything, but they may have had their reasons; i.e. busy, not wanting to deal with a minor case, etc. If the manager gave you a number to call if you have any questions, you will be getting a fine. That’s what we tell people as they leave. You’ll get a letter from the company within a few weeks.

Consider yourself lucky, and if you’re going to steal again, just don’t do it once you turn 18, you will have a criminal record for LIFE.

Good luck.

i am really creeped out and feel really uncomfortable when im surrounded by weird unfamiliar things. the most frightening dreams i have are ones where i am in weird places where i don’t know anyone or where i am or anything. they frighten me so much i feel like im not in control and i dont know whats going to happen to me. i often get creeped out after watching myth and urban legend shows. the movie "AI" makes me feel very uncomfortable when the boy is under ice with the teddy bear. i often have weird dreams like what he went through in that movie. the movie "k-pax" when he remembers when he killed the family, when it goes back to the scene with the empty house and its showing where they were murdered…i also feel VERY uncomfortable. what fear is this?

It is natural, in my opinion to feel uncomfortable in unfamiliar surroundings. I am very in to dream interpretation, so on the note of having those dreams, maybe you should interpret them with the help of www.dreammoods.com. But if you feel like the uncomfortableness of unfamiliar surroundings hold you back from meeting people or in your job, I think you should seek professional help. Search the internet for local psychologist if you feel that is necesary.

On July 19, 64 A.D., a great fire broke out in ancient Rome near Capena Gate and burned much of the place after having persisted for several days. The brilliant emperor rushed back to Rome from his vacation spot as soon as he heard the news and immediately used a relief effort to help the survivors and use his wealth to rebuild the city into an even greater glory, such as creating the new Golden House.

The emperor new that it was all the fault of the followers of the relatively new religion, the Christians. The Christians wanted to crush all those who were different and were probably also trying to fulfill some dumb prophecy, so the emperor tossed them over to the lions.

The wise emperor’s judgement not only brought justice to the arsonists, but he also demonstrated the power and brilliance to help the victims and use his own urban plans to reconstruct Rome into an even more majestic area.
Oh no, a typo. I meant to say that the emperor "knew" that it was the Christians’ fault.

i love revisionist history.. you 2 need to apply to obama and get a job on his staff.. maybe then he can come up with a birth certificate (long form) that people will believe besides the one showing he was born in africa (in the courts now in california)

Example 2: After all the various damages caused by the sexual revolution such as STD epidemics, broken relationships, cheapened bonds and fatherless homes, people still act like it’s the 60s.

Example 3: Despite all the environmental damage and economic damage done to the poor by urban sprawl, people still poorly plot their development and rape more trees instead of tearing down old buildings and building new ones in place.

Example 4: People complaining about a president that they chose to reelect.

I can go on and on but those are just a few random examples.

Because everyone blames everyone else for their mistakes. How in the world can you be held accountable for things you dont take responsibility for in the first place. This has become the I feel generations- if it feels good or right do it and who are you to tell me no. For ex, for safety reasons they have kids open their bookbags when they come into school -Guaranteed some parent will be like -ohh my God how can you inconvience my child by attempting to protect her-yet when something happens its-why didnt you know they had a weapon. Everyone wants what they want when they want it -no discipline. So if adults are no longer discipline they create a generation of undiscpline kids but thats blamed on something else to.

This might be some weird urban legend, but I heard a story (which I doubt, but might be possible) about one of the missions to the Moon where bacteria was implanted into the lunar soil. As it were, one of the missions involved covering a metal instrument with viruses (maybe staph), and then placing this instrument on the ground. Somehow, NASA determined that some of these viruses were still alive after several years. I’m not sure where this story originated. If this were true, and if some of our microorganisms were actually able to survive there, then a few of them might have adapted to life on the Moon under very harsh conditions, and we could have a lunar strain of (staph?) viruses, which would probably wreak havoc if brought back to Earth. Has anyone heard anything about this?
Also, could you please answer this question before it expires?

I believe you have heard a variation of an actual bacterial contamination incident during the Apollo Program. The second lunar landing mission (Apollo 12) was designed to demonstrate the accuracy of the landing system computer (known as the DSKY) which resulted in a landing site being chosen near an unmanned spacecraft (Surveyor lander) that had landed almost three years earlier(long before the first human landing). Although this was a huge challenge, the system worked so well that the crew (Commander Pete Conrad and LM Pilot Alan Bean) landed less than 2 football fields away from the lander in Sept of1969. The Surveyor spacecraft was examined and photographed and several parts were removed for study, including a scissor type retractable scoop which was brought back to earth (The lunar recieving lab…a very controlled and sterile enviornment)in a vacuum sealed container. To the examining science teams surprise, the parts were found to contain human bacterial organisms that belonged to neither of the astronauts on the mission. This was indeed a shocking surprise and caused some brief concern and amazement. Through strict and thorough testing it was learned that the bacteria found was directly traceable(DNA etc.) to the technician who had origionally installed the scoop on the spacecraft before the flight…three years prior! He sheepishly admitted to having had a cold/virus while working on the vehicle and recalled sneezing around the spacecraft while performing the installation. To his credit…the concern for returning alien microorganisms to Earth was considered to be the priority and not much thought was given to possibly contaminating an envirnment so seemingly inhospitable as the lunar surface. To be sure…the surface temperature on the moon ranges from -220 degrees or so, up to 200+ degrees,no air, no water and is a near perfect vacuum. No bacteria was found in any lunar rock or soil samples though. The fact that something, even a simple bacterial organism could survive even a minute much less 3 years is amazing in itself. And yet it happened (despite the conspiracy theorists claims…a whole ‘nother "often abused" notion). It lends hope to finding additional "life" somewhere other than here on Earth someday. As a result…we are taking great care in assessing any contamination "both ways" as we look to returning to the moon and, even more challenging, on to Mars and even beyond. I hope this helps
