Well, I used to live in San Diego for 4 years, and I totally miss Claim Jumpers and Pea Soup Anderson’s, the cliffs, beaches, warm sands, warm weather, sun with hardly no clouds, palm trees, water galore, and Tijuana!!
But now I’m living here in Chicago, where it’s polluted, overcrowded, millions of people, very, very cultural and adventurous. I am not much of a museum artsy person either, but I sure do love the thousands of choices of food, not to mention THE BEST I’ve ever had, as well as the most biggest place to shop for ANYTHING. And lets say you’ve always wanted to work for this huge company..well, more than likely, you’ll find it here. This is the place where dreams have come true for many cultures, so you’ll see things you thought wouldn’t exist right here. If you like bars, you’ll be in heaven. There’s no dress code here, either, because of there being so many blends of cultures, theres always weird people and things to look at. Honestly though, apartments are expensive, over $800, homes are crazy expensive too.
Living in San Diego was serene with the stars out at night, but once you come here you’ll be addicted. I suggest you look in here http://www.chicagotribune.com to help you get started.Good Luck! P.S. i don’t miss Black’s Beach, too many old fat guys

Chicago is awesome for so many different reasons including the fact that it houses SO many different cultures and ethnic backgrounds. It’s like one giant melting pot! There are many ethnic neighborhoods like Greek Town and China Town, and there are many areas with people from Poland, India, Mexico, and many other places. There are THOUSANDS of places to shop and eat, and the nightlife is incredibly lively. There are lots of concerts throughout Chicago, and even some cafes have bands performing while you eat. Also, during the winter, many people still walk around and shop, and a lot of people go to the outdoor skating rink in Millennium Park. Not only are the shops and restaurants fun, but Chicago is generally a beautiful city. Navy Pier attracts many tourists, and it is a great place to go at any time of the day. In the evening, there are dinner cruises that travel around Lake Michigan while you enjoy a nice dinner. There are many beautiful parks and beaches, and there are TONS of events and festivals around the city on every day of the year, so you can never say that you’re bored. Hopes this helps

The landscape surrounding Chicago is flat, but Chicago itself is anything but – huge skyscrapers everywhere, some with amazing architecture. It has a gorgeous lakefront that looks like an ocean, as well as massive rivers. The city is very walkable (unlike, say, much of San Diego) so you can walk among the skyscrapers and visit interesting shops and restaurants, kind of like some streets in San Francisco.

Chicago’s a wonderfully entertaining city – there are great museums if you are into that – you can find something that interests you, certainly – terrific blues and jazz clubs and fun nightlife, beaches right in the city, great comedy clubs like Second City, fun neighborhoods, great shopping, and it’s all connected by public transportation, making it easy to get around.

I suppose the best comparison would be San Francisco – a nice urban city, fairly walkable, with nice parks, and less hills but more interesting skyscrapers.

The winter’s cold, sure, but the activities keep right on going. You just bundle up. It’s quieter, no question, but the city never really stops moving.

Hills and mountains are overrated. You go up, you look down, the end. If you want to go someplace high, try the Signature Room at the top of the John Hancock building. Take the elevator on the South Side of the building, go up to the bar, buy a drink and take in the fantastic view. Beats a mountain or hill hands down. And you can get a martini on top of a mountain and you don’t have to climb, only take the elevator.

Other than that, we’ve got teams in every major sports, a bunch of college teams, major concert venues that host every major musical act, smaller clubs that feature every style of music you can think of (rock, pop, hip hop, blue, country, folk, jazz, you name it), bars that stay open until 4 a.m. or 5 a.m on the weekend, major comedy clubs like Second City that have give the world the top-name comedians and comedic actors, a great lakefront where you can lie on the beach and check out the hotties, decent public transportation so you don’;t really need a car to live here, reasonable rents (you can find a one bedroom in a decent neighborhood for about $700 a month), a booming theater community, a huge park system with spots all around the city so you can totally escape the hustle and bustle and chill out in peace and quiet with the ducks, tons of museums large and small with major international works of art, world famous architecure (the skyscraper was born here), we’re a major transportation hub so if there is anywhere you have to go, you can get there from here (I once took a non-stop flight to London from here. Try doing that in San Diego).. etc. etc. etc.

too much to name. You couldn’t see HALF the stuff that makes Chicago great in one weekend.

Oh, and yes the winters can be brutal. But it makes us tougher. We can still party, albeit indoors a lot. Trust me, the snow and cold doesn’t keep Chicagoans from having a good time. I mean, have you ever SEEN a Bears game on television from Soldier Field. The thing is right on the lakefront and it’s STILL filled.

what do people in new york do in winteR? kind of the same question

i live here in chicago…its simply amazing

from the history to the people…everything is so diverse and personal

there will always be something to do on a vacation if u come here…especially if you already know someone here to show you around

Chicago has many things. I love visiting their Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Natural History, Adler Planetarium, and the Art Institute. What do people do in winter? Ha! Freeze. Suffer. Wish they lived in California.
