I was seeking counseling in palo alto, california to see if my recent stress could be related to my hair loss. I learned it could be the cause!
The most common type is called telogen effluvium, where extreme stress causes hair follicles to fall dormant. Usually the head recovers from this when the stress subsides.
However, I was diagnosed with alopecia areata, where white blood cells attacked my hair follicle, leaving small, round bald patches.
This second type can occur in various places on the body, not just the head, and may leave to baldness if left untreated.
Of course, there are non-stress related (medical) issues which can result in hairloss as well.
I’ve been working on lowering my workload and getting in more exercise to lower my stress levels. Hopefully my hair catches on soon!
