I live in a big city. the crime rates are pretty high, but it depends where in the city you are. i live in the "good" part of the city.
i was recently at my aunts house and she lives in a VERY rural area.
she was like "this is my niece kelsey and shes from _____ city" and they all looked at me like i was nuts. then they started talking about drugs and hinting that i do them. i’m 17 and never touched one in my life.
like their kids who live in rural areas are any better? did you know studies show that those kids are worse then city kids with drugs?
i was very offended, i love where i’m from, its not the best place in the world but i’m proud. where i live is very historical also, i would say how but i dont want to give my location away. but where i’m from is more historical then where they are. its still bothering me and i’ve been home for a few days.
i dont even drink! i’ve drank a few times and i never even finished my own drink, i had sips of someone elses. i dont know why but weather my stomach is empty or full i feel it hit my stomach and i dont feel well after.<<i dont think thats normal lol
lol theres about 6 malls with in 30 minutes of my house. ![]()
im not completely sure about this fact because i havent read it someone told me that city kids would usually stick with weed and the suburban and rural kids are into the hard stuff
what made me mad was the people who were trying to convince me where i live is bad grew up here!

Its common knowledge among those of us who are younger(I would say at least anyone under 30) in my rural area that kids from the country have more drug problems than city kids. City kids only get the bad name for them because of the higher population. They are given more attention on TV and everything. However, city kids have a lot more to do than sit around doing drugs. In my farming county all we had to do growing up was drink and do drugs. I did it and I don’t know of any person I grew up with and/or graduated with who didn’t do drugs at least once and everyone drank. Our closest mall is 45 minutes away, and its tiny. Besides cow tipping(yes I’m serious) or taking walks or sitting around a coffee shop…we had nothing. Things have only gotten worse here. The kids in my old high school are doing drugs even more. Five years ago my classmates and I smoked pot, drank, and did OCs and cocaine. Now, the kids are taking ecstasy and heroine. In my hometown I can drive around pointing out a drug dealer on almost every street. Its scary. I would feel safer living in a larger area because at least then the kids would have more things to do rather than sit around bored.
Try not to take it too hard when rural folks stereotype. Most of them are just in denial about their own area’s problems, or simply they don’t know.
i dont think that way at all

A lot of people from the country do think like that. I’m from New York and most people automatically assume that I’m from New York City. Not at all. I live surrounded by woods, cow farms, horse farms, and nature preserves. My town only has a post office, a gas station, and a volunteer fire department. We have to go into the next town over for groceries, library, and all that stuff. The nearest mall is a half hour away. But you know what they say about assuming. They make an ass out of u and me.

Um, idk where you got your facts from but thats not what i’ve read. City children are of COURSE going to be the ones with the higher rates doing drugs, drinking, ect.
You shouldn’t let it bother you though. You know you don’t do them, so why should you care? You can’t help where you live and the stereotype.
Be happy you have never done drugs and be proud. You really can’t help where you come from, and you can’t help peoples ignorance to stereotype.
Heck, i live in a town known for its IDIOTS, but i know i’m not an idiot, so why should I care?
Just let it slide.

I think it depends on how a teen is raised and if the teen gives into peer pressure and also if they have really good access to drugs..
I dont think all teens are alike, i know some very mature and good teenagers, and i know some really bad very immature teenagers..

I lived in the city for 3 years but i currently live in a small town with a pop of 300
You had every right to be offended. I saw a commercial once that said:
45% of all kids who do drugs live in the city – guess where the other 55% live. Statistically suburban/rural kids do more drugs than city kids.
I’ve lived all three and liked living downtown the best. No car, 20 minute commute on the subway to work, it was great. I wouldn’t go back now, it would kill my dog, but at the time it was great. Don’t let the ignorant people get you down, they don’t know any better.

People always have opinions about people who come from ‘elsewhere.’ Unless you’ve traveled a lot, I suppose it would be hard not to. And yes, you are correct. The drug problem, as a percentage of the population of kids, is much worse in rural America than in the cities.
My sister was given a hard time by neighbors and others because she had lived in Los Angeles for 10 years (yes, earthquakes, the riots, fire). They couldn’t understand how she could get used to rural life. Pfft. Heck, we grew up in a semirural area, cows and horses and chickens all around, so it was nothing new. Even then, it was obvious that many of the kids did dope and drank.
