North Carolina is simply the most beautiful state in the US. Has the best winters and all around weather and has many rural areas that aren't very expensive to live in but are very beautiful. Especially the mountain communities or the beach areas.
References :
Personal experience. Live in NC for many years

It depends what part of Texas you are going to. South Texas is usually hot year round with an occasional cold front, while North Texas has cold winters and warm summers. Houston is really urban: it has a one of the best medical centers in the US, great museum district, and a fairly decent downtown. Houston weather is usually humid/rainy. A nice urban city with decent weather is Austin.
References :
Houston is either the 3rd or 4th largest city in the USA. It's a big city like New York only its in Texas. It's very urban.
Weather varies all over Texas. On the gulf it is very humid, always. Combined with 100 degree temperature, and it is awful.
Central and North Texas are hot in summer and mild in winter.
West Texas can be very cold in winter and yet very hot in summer.

I live in Tx, the weather is fairly warm year round. But about Sept - Nov, it tends to be windy. Houston is mostly a city(urban), but Since it is the capital for Livestock Showings so some of it is rural.

Hope i helped!
References :
I've lived in North Carolina all my life; the weather is good in the spring and fall, between 55-80 degrees, it gets hot in the summer, in the 90s and humid, in the winter it gets cold but not very cold, it doesn't snow often (outside of the mountains anyway). We have hurricanes fairly often. There are ALOT of rural places.
References :
I live in a small town in North Carolina and LOVE IT!!!
The weather is crazy... it can get in the 100's in the summer and we have had some cold winters too.
There is alot of rural areas here but it mainly depends on which county u live in.. Gilford is one big city. But Sampson is VERY rural.

Hope this helps,
