Texas: A good place for a second home?
I’am from California and I recently visited some family in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I also got to see a little of East Texas (Tyler), Central Texas (Austin), and West Texas (El Paso). Anyway, I really enjoyed the time that I spent in Texas. The people seem to be pretty nice and hospitable throughout the state and their seems to be so much to see and do there (and PLENTY of space) that I’am thinking of possibly buying a vacation home there someday. I’am really into watersports and Texas seems to have plenty of good-sized lakes (I counted over 20 just in the Dallas-Fort Worth area) and a coastline where I could go. I’am an outdoor enthusiast in general. so I pretty much like anything that can be done outside the home, and Texas seem to offer almost everything. So would having a second home someday in Texas be a good idea? Where are some of the best places to have vacation homes in Texas (rural and urban)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If I were you I would choose Austin, Austin is a great place if your into music. We have tons of venues all around Austin. We are the live music capital. We also have beautiful hill country views that are just breath taking. Every one in Austin is extremely friendly. Traffic is so so but people since the people are nice it is easy to get around. Sandra Bullock and Matthew McConahey (sorry dont think I spelled that right) are some of the locals. Lake Travis is a beautiful blue lake that you can swim, fish and go boating in. The only thing it doesnt have is a place to surf but Galveston is only 2.5 hrs away. Trust me if you choose austin you will live anywhere else.

Plano/Frisco (north dallas) is a really cool area as it has like 8 movie theatres, several malls, just about any shopping outlet you can imagine, and lots of places to eat and explore. Perfect place for urban living although the rent is somewhat high.

Hi! I live in Dallas. I grew up here in Texas and have vacationed ALL OVER this state.
I think I can help you out.
The best places for a vacation home are:
Morgan’s Point, on Lake Belton near Temple, TX
Toledo Bend on the far east side of Texas. It is a huge blue lake with every water sport known to man. Beautiful tall pines and sandy beaches.
Concan, TX in the mountains on the western edge of Texas. You would love to vacation on the beautiful Rio Frio river there. The huge rocky cliffs are so colorful and the water is crystal clear.
New Braunfels,TX is a quaint little German town in the heart of Texas. It is hilly and Is embedded in a forest.
The famous Guadalupe river runs through it plus there are two lakes there. Actually there are a lot of small rivers also that converge there.
They have many German restaurants and an award winning water park that is set in the woods with sandy beaches.
Canoeing and kayaking is a popular sport on the Guadalupe River. I love it. Everybody does. It’s beautiful and very popular. It’s not that far from San Antonio.
You might also be interested in beautiful Lake Travis on the edge of Austin. It has beautiful white cliffs and is another popular area for vacation homes.
For a more rural spot, you might look into Kerrville,TX. It is beautiful. Very woodsy and it too is a hot spot for canoeing and kayaking down the rapids of the Guadalupe river.
It isn’t close to any large cities but it’s beautiful and a great place to meet up with people from all over the state of Texas.
If you like the city of Dallas, where I’m from, I suggest Lake Lewisville just north of here.

OH! I almost forgot! The beaches on the Gulf of Mexico here.
I like Freeport,TX..It’s near Houston.
I also like Padre Island near Corpus Christi. The souther part of Padre Island known as South Padre Island is a good place too. It is crazy durring spring break though. It’s one of the top hottest places to go durring spring break so I don’t know if that’s something you would be interested in but it’s a beautiful place.
The beaches anywhere along Padre Island are nice. It runs for miles and miles.
