What are the qualifications?
What education and experience is required?
What qualities would I need for this career?

What are the future trends?

Location/travel requirements?

Are there opportunities for education? What are they?
What is the working environment – urban/rural, indoors/outdoors?
What kind of physical activity is there?
What is the salary range?
Are there benefits with this career? or at places that hire photographers?

I have tried for awhile to find answers to these questions, I’ve just never been vary good at finding information on the web. I’m actually still trying to find out the answers to the questions I have posted. I already answered a few questions that I didn’t add to this as well. There aren’t really any, if you are freelancing you are your own boss. You just need to know how to sell yourself and treat you clients with respect.
What education and experience is required?
No education is required, but EVERYONE wants to see experience in the field you want to peruse. Otherwise they don’t know the quality of your work. The education will help you to because better, but it’s not necessary.
What qualities would I need for this career?
Patience, the ability to market yourself, and the ability to deal with people.
What skills & abilities would be important for this career?
Advertisement and Marketing. Even if you are the best photographer in the world, if people can’t find your work they aren’t going to buy it.
What companies hire photographers?
Almost any company you can think of. Companies need advertisements, and someone has to photograph them.
I got up to those questions and then your questions because too specific so I gave up. You are thinking to narrow minded about this, there is no set salary, there is no set location, there really is no set anything.

basically it works like this, if you have the technical abilities to get or make the shot at pro standard everytime and market yourself well you might make some cash, those that market and network do better than those that dont
most are self employed afew get salaries or wages

Have you even bothered to make the effort to answer any of these based on your own research first? If not, then I am not feeling inclined to help you one bit.
Nothing bites more than someone who doesn’t make the effort to attempt to complete their assignments first before asking for help with certain questions.

I had those questions when I started out, but yours are phrased more like school homework.
The answer s varied depending on the photographer. It’s like asking, "what does a biologist do? How much does it make?" The term "photographer" is too broad.
So, to help you do your homework, I recommend you reading "ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography" and "Photographer’s Market". You’ll have to read between the lines.
