Every move starts with a checklist. Below is a good starter checklist for you to use to get ready for your move.
1. Do you have your truck reserved?
2. Do you have boxes? Bubble wrap? Tape? Markers?
3. Do you want any unusual size boxes, like wardrobe or small appliances?
4. Don’t forget to mark your boxes to the future destination rooms. Label contents clearly.
5. Have I secured my personal items in my control, like jewelry? Your ultimate precious items should be moved by you.
6. Use up your food to minimize your move. Buy food when you get to the new destination.
7. Throw stuff out, or have a yard sale to reduce the move requirements. Some stuff is really not worth moving.
8. Start packing early, even weeks ahead for stuff you won’t use.
9. Do a change of address at USPS.
10. Notify important parties, your bank, credit cards, mortgage company, doctor, post office etc.
11. Defrost the refrigerator and freezer one-two days prior.
12. Take some measurements, make sure items will fit where you would like them to be.
13. Plan and have your payment ready, tip according to how well movers protected your items, not how quick they made the move.
14. Exchange cell phone numbers with your mover.
16. Be there to answer questions. This will help eliminate any “downtime” if movers are uncertain about some item or room.
