There are small sketchy areas in Burbank and Pasadena, but most areas are very nice and safe, with very nice people. While downtown LA is rather seedy, parts of it are nice, and the city is working to turn it nicer, with the new Nokia and restaurants, etc. While I'm sure many people living in bad situations may be despondent, are you sure there are no happy people? Have you worked in the community to help?
