is there any place in san diego that is like new york city?

I am moving to san diego from nyc, i am looking for apartments, and i’m looking for somewhere with a downtown, very urban feel like nyc if at all possible. i want to be able to walk to transportation if need be.

i am looking for a studio or one bedroom. can anyone tell me the name of neighborhoods or areas i should be looking in?

I agree with rosco_19. The two cities have different mentalities. The weather is different, the way people dress is different, and the things that make us/them tick are different. Both really nice cities, but both differernt.

You should definitely try downtown san diego, lots of tall buildings, very large library’s, much buses and people walking around. and of course, apartments.

Chula vista and la jolla are similar towns that are cluttery-ish also. But, try downtown first. It’s the town with the tallest buildings in san diego and very diff out of all the other towns in SD.

Little Italy has something akin to that feel. It is close to the downtown area of SD, has a trolley stop (light rail), is close to the airport, the San Diego Bay, and has tons of great Italian restaurants.

You can also live in Hillcrest which is the gay-borhood in SD and has lots of great restaurants and is close to lots of public transportation and Balboa Park (which is a great place to go with lots to do).

SD is a very diverse place to live and should be an easy transition for you being from NYC.

I’ve been to nyc many times, and I live in San Diego, they have nothing in common. I you want to live in New York you should stay there, if you want to live in San Diego be willing to let a lot of New York go. Good luck!

You will have to go for downtown San Diego. It’s the best you can do. The only places in California that are really like NYC are San Francisco and Hollywood.

Try googling zip codes 92101 and 92103 in the real estate ads. That will focus you on the downtown NYC atmosphere that you described. I was born in NYC and moved to the 92117 zip many years ago. You won’t want to go back to NY after you have settled in San Diego. SD is a more pleasant place to live. To get a local feel checkout the local news stations. http://www.10news.com/index.html and http://www.cbs8.com/ hope this helps. Good luck.

Definitely Little Italy, which is adjacent to the Gaslamp District. Tons of the NY type places, and you can even go to Dick’s Last Resort, when you miss the Strong Island attitude. There’s some beautiful apts above these buildings and plenty of the high rise types as well. Excellent transit as well.
