New black Kansas City resident, where safe and harmonious to live?

I am a new resident of Kansas City who is black and hoping to live somewhere comfortable within the $700-900 a month range. My girlfriend and I would consider either an apartment or a home for rent. Despite equal housing laws, many of you are probably aware of discrimination by realtors against blacks and other stigmatized minorities according to the Department of Housing and Urban Development. There’s also the undocumented discomfort produced by neighbors’ prejudice. Can you please recommend a safe and harmonious place to live? We’d prefer a diverse part of town. Thank you!

As long as your east of Troost, South of 18th Street and North of 60th you will be ok! Thats a diverse area with really inexpensive rent.

Raytown. It’s pretty cheap and has become very diverse in the past couple years but you don’t have to worry about getting shot everytime you walk out your door. Good school district too!
