See a list of nightclubs here: http://www.centerstagechicago.com/dance/clubs/styles/soul-RB.html . However, I recommend The Funky Buddha Lounge (http://www.funkybuddha.com ) and Exedus II (http://www.exeduslounge.com/ ).

Other top clubs that will have a mixture of music (you'd have to check the calendar for which day features what type of music): Crobar (http://www.crobar.com ), Vision (http://www.visionnightclub.com ), Ohm
(http://ohmnightlife.com/ ).

A really good source for R&B shows and events comes from the city's urban-contemporary radio stations. WGCI (http://wgci.zipscene.com/events/ and http://wgci.zipscene.com/events/browse/station ), Power 92 (http://www.power92chicago.com/pages/3839264.php ), Soul 106.3 (http://soul1063radio.com/pages/3037351.php ), and V-103 (http://v103.zipscene.com/events ).

Chicagoland has a lot of shopping areas. Besides along State Street & Wabash in the Loop, there is the Magnificent Mile malls (including Water Tower Place, North Bridge Mall, and Chicago Place Mall) and Ford City (http://www.shopfordcity.com ). In suburbia, there's Woodfield Mall (http://www.shopwoodfield.com in Schaumburg, IL, along with other shopping complexes) and Oak Brook Mall (http://www.oakbrookcenter.com in Oak Brook, along with other shopping complexes). Beyond malls, there are flea markets, re-sale shops, and stretches of shops in various areas. Plenty of places to spend your money. ;-) Some nice stretches to visit...
* Magnificent Mile (http://www.themagnificentmile.com )
* Belmont & Clark street has a variety of eclectic shops [Clark #22 bus to Belmont or Red (Howard)/Brown (Kimball) line to Belmont]
* Brown Line L train to the Armitage stop, then walk east to Halsted Street. Walk north & south on Halsted (between Armitage and Webster). Some good stops to make in this area are LUSH (http://www.lush.com ), 1154 Lill Studio (http://www.1154lill.com/home/ ) for making a purse, Aroma Workshop (http://aromaworkshop.com ) for making perfume/lotions/oils, and Swirlz (http://www.swirlzcupcakes.com ).
* Wicker Park/Bucktown - artsy/hipster area, but has some yuppie influences in terms of stores. There are some cool independent places to check out.

This site gives great overviews of Chicago and its shopping areas: http://seemoreshopping.com/home/ .
